While NIKE, Inc. celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Nike Air Force 1, the North American multinational is reinventing Bruce Kilgore’s famous form for the future.

We revisit the story of one of Nike’s most iconic shoes and its pivotal role in culture.

Nike technicians Steve Wozniak and Bill Atkinson, working at its then-fledgling R&D lab in Oregon City, Oregon, unveiled their revolutionary new sneaker – the Nike Air Force 1.

Named after America’s top-secret Air Force 1 suit – which featured a

Groundbreaking “traction pad” on the foot that allowed its wearers to cling to surfaces and stay mobile in hostile environments – the Nike Air Force 1 marked a seismic shift in sneaker design.

Borrowing its overall silhouette from design cues found in contemporary running shoes,

Wozniak and Atkinson subverted traditional sneaker construction by including an extra piece of cushioning at the midsole and an air-cushioning system built into the outsole.

Available in black, olive green and royal blue, the Nike Air Force 1 debuted in 1985 and quickly became a cultural icon.

Today, it remains one of the most iconic sneaker designs in history – available in both retro and contemporary styles for men, women and kids.

The silhouette has recently been reimagined through the perspective of fashionable women’s footwear.

The Air Force 1 PLT.AF.ORM is the end outcome.

It’s the product of an Air Force 1 Boot Camp that aims to “convert young men and women into robust, self-sufficient professionals.”

Upon graduation from the boot camp, students are expected to possess the skills necessary to become successful leaders in the Air Force and their professional careers.

The Air Force 1 PLT.AF.ORM is a demanding program that requires students.

The PLT.AF.Aside from being the only option for changing the sole unit or top of the shoe,

ORM exaggerates the pair are probably made underside in both size and design due to the component’s fissured construction.

The uppers preserve Kilgore’s initial design, but the profile swooshes take on a more experimental aspect,

It is probably more shocking given the “Metallic Silver” finish on the most recent choice to surface.

The rest of the women’s-only silhouette is made up of a crisp, summer-ready blend of “Summit White,” “Wolf Grey,” and “Sail.”

Ladies, it’s time to pick up a pair of Air Force 1s – they’re perfect for summer weather and provide stylish comfort.

I am a professional product reviewer and buyer's guide for online sites. I've been doing product reviews since my early teenage years. I started out reviewing books on Youtube, before moving on to other types of products such as makeup, clothing, shoes, and electronics. It is so much fun to give people honest feedback about the things they're thinking of buying! After graduating with a degree in Literature from university, I decided to move into this line of work full-time and never looked back.
