Beautiful Shoes Made By Alterre With Interchangeable Straps

Today’s news, Beautiful shoes made by Alterre with interchangeable straps.

Alterre’s luxury footwear is recycled, repurposed, personalized, and ethically created, ticking several of Treehugger’s boxes.

Shilpa Iyengar and Harmony Pilobello created this New York City-based company in 2015, and it stands out among other shoe designers for its unusual approach to style and production.

The shoes are manufactured from chrome-free, traceable leather, recycled denim, and deadstock fabric, while the heels are created from recycled plastic.

You can swap out and connect alternative straps to entirely modify the style of your shoe thanks to a metal stud put on the bottom of each shoe.

This means you’ll spend the same amount of money on a single high-quality shoe foundation and a variety of accessories to achieve numerous appearances.

It appears to be an excellent addition to a minimalist or capsule wardrobe.

According to Treehugger’s interview with Pilobello and Iyengar,

“We wanted to create shoes that are multifunctional on a daily basis and can be worn/renewed for a long time. It’s part of our plan to provide circularity in the footwear industry.”

The heel of some modular shoe designs is interchangeable, but Alterre’s founders explain why this isn’t a smart idea on their website.

The balance and fit of a fixed shoe are affected when the heel height is changed. Consider how strange it feels to walk as the rubber on your heel fades away.

It’s because the heel heights have altered.

Alterre prefers to sell the shoe as a solitary item, with the straps being the only thing that can be changed (though the same straps will work on shoe bases with different heel heights).

It’s been a huge hit with customers thus far. “Once they try them on, people are ecstatic, Pilobello and Iyengar tell Treehugger.

Because we’re a new brand, there may be some trepidation at first.

Trying on new heels can seem like starting a new romance. However, once people experience how comfy our shoes are, they are hooked!

Customers frequently remain for hours trying on various combinations.

Our shoes are both fashionable and functional.

The shoes are created in Sapiranga, Brazil, which is known for its shoe production.

The factory is touted as “open-minded about the future of footwear” and is run by a woman.

According to the creators, “What distinguishes them is their readiness to collaborate with a small company like ours,

And answer all of our inquiries about third-party vendors, corporate leadership roles, compensation, and so on.

We’ve gone deep in a way that previous factories found tough to navigate.

The manufacturer signed a thorough Supplier Code of Conduct with Alterre, pledging to protect workers at all levels of employment, refrain from engaging in any type of human trafficking or forced labor, and responsibly manage waste.

“Thanks to the financial assistance of a larger U.S. corporation,” the founders note, “[the factory] has also been audited more extensively for supply chain transparency.”

Repairability is a top goal for Alterre. If the metal stud is damaged, you can obtain a free DIY stud repair kit from the company,

Which includes simple instructions for at-home repairs.

Alterre also refers consumers to cobbler services if their shoes require more extensive repairs. Slides, mules, and sandals are among the styles available, as are stilettos, boots, and flats.

They cost between $200 and $500, with interchangeable attachments ranging from $45 to $135. (There’s a good sale area with reasonable prices.)

While this may appear to be a costly price, keep in mind that these are created to a higher-than-average ethical production level and can be used to replace numerous pairs of shoes in your closet.

And if they’re as comfortable as Alterre claims, they could be well worth the money.

Nothing surpasses a truly amazingly comfy fancy shoe that doesn’t leave you with blisters, aches, or pains and can be worn for hours on end.

It is so much fun to give people honest feedback about the things they're thinking of buying! After graduating with a degree in Literature from university, I decided to move into this line of work full-time and never looked back.
